Update for 9/4

   Hello 5th grade parents,

   I hope you had a wonderful Labor Day Weekend! I wanted to remind you

that there are a couple of quizzes coming up this week. We will have a Science quiz on Wednesday, September 6. It will cover Classification (Chapter 6: Sections 1 and 2). The students brought home their Science books and Science journals to study.

   Also, we'll have a quiz for our Reading/Literary Centers Period on Friday. This

isn't one for which the students will be able to study any specific text. It will entail them having a "cold read" on a passage and exhibiting that they can do the following: 1. Identify theme 2. Analyze characterization 3. Compare/contrast characters , events, settings 4.Use text-based evidence to answer a question 5. Alter the story in some way that follows a logical sequence with the text.

   In math, we will also have a quiz on Friday. For our 5.1's, it will cover

multiplication up to two-digit by three-digit. For our 5.2/6.1's, it will cover greatest

common factor (GCF) and least common factor (LCM). The students can find

great review at www.studyjams.com.
